Mother and two baby hummingbirds in their nest shot through a window at my in-laws home in Tippecanoe County Indiana. At the 4:15 mark one baby demonstrates their projectile method of eliminating excrement from the nest.

be sure not to feed sugar-water to your birds it will kill them. The nectar in the humming bird packets sold at the store works just fine……

Mother Nature at her finest…awesome vid and also rare.

  • changtuber:

I love the way the adult bird bobs its whole body from side to side when it’s on the nest, as if it can barely stand to sit still :) Lovely video and music, you’re a true artist.

ah .. spoke to soon! Thankyou for this video

  • rogero999:

Beautiful! Anyone know the music? (both tracks)

  • Britishspitfire:

There are many resources, here on the web, such as the National Audubon Society, and they recommend keeping the feeders up during winter, it helps the birds north of your location, which may winter in your area. You can help them survive.

I love hummingbirds! Someone told me I need to take my feeder down in September. I live in North Carolina. Do you know if this is true?

  • chatangel:

Thank you, for the valued information!

Is 12-15ft above the ground avg nesting height?

Ruby Throated Hummers only species in my area.

Hopefully this season I’ll get to “see” a nest in the wild.

we had 30+ hummers at 3 different feeders under my carport in a line 5ft apart.

I’d love to have a possible correlation regarding the diameter of their nests?.. ie quarter, golf ball, baseball etc.

    Thanks again!

Yes, it’s a Red Bud tree. I extended the camera over my head to shoot this at nest level from a second floor window so the nest is about 12-13 feet off the ground. The birds at the end of the video at the feeder and in the tree are the babies right before the left that September.

  • chatangel:

    Beautiful…
at 4:20 I believe I answered my first question! Yes Red Bud Tree.

Questions.. regarding the tree the hummers are nesting in. Could this be an Eastern Red Bud Tree? (I believe it is by the seeds pods, however the leaf is normally heart shaped with the wind blowing I can not be certain.

One other question, the nest’s height above the ground in feet please.

  • pinkpawpad:
